Barry has over 20 years experience as a Chartered Quantity Surveyor (FRICS) and has held various senior commercial leadership roles for owners and tier one contractors in the construction, infrastructure and resources sectors in both Australia and the United Kingdom.

Barry has led large teams of Contract Administrators and Quantity Surveyors on large complex civil engineering and infrastructure projects and has successfully established pre-contract and post-contract commercial strategy on major civils and SMP packages of work delivering best for project outcomes safely.

Barry specialises in the establishment and deployment of commercial strategy and management, risk and opportunity management, claims management (time and cost quantum), adjudication, arbitration support and dispute avoidance and resolution.

Barry has previously been engaged by law firms to provide quantum advisory services in relation to payment disputes which are the subject of an Application for Adjudication and also, for drafting of expert reports for the purposes of arbitration or litigation.

Barry holds qualifications in law (Bachelor of Laws LLB) and quantity surveying and commercial management (Bachelor of Science with Honours) and is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), a professional member of the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (MAIQS CQS), a full member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (MCIArb) and a professional member of the Resolution Institute (formerly IAMA).

Barry also regularly mentors junior quantity surveyors and participates in professional assessment panels for the RICS as an APC Chairperson and Assessor.

Notable major resources sector project experience includes:

  • Chevron’s Gorgon and Wheatstone LNG Project;
  • Roy Hill Project
  • Rio Tinto’s Yandi, Nammuldi, Brockman 4 and Koodaideri projects;
  • BHP’s South Flank project; and
  • FMG’s Solomon and Iron Bridge project.

Major infrastructure project experience includes

  • Gateway WA Alliance;
  • Perth Children’s Hospital;
  • Great Eastern Highway Upgrade; and
  • Avertas Energy’s Kwinana Waste to Energy Project.
